You Look Disgusting Lauren Ruehle

This video was made by a YouTuber who goes by the name of My Pale Skin. She quotes in her description: "Over the past few months, I've received thousands of messages from people all over the world who suffer or have suffered from acne, an insecurity or self confidence issues. I wanted to create a film that showed how social media can set unrealistic expectations on both women and men. One challenge many face today, is that as a society, we're so used to seeing false images of perfection, and comparing ourselves to unrealistic beauty standards that It can be hard to remember the most important thing - You ARE beautiful. You are beautiful - no matter how flawed you feel, no matter how upset you may about the way you look or how hard you find it to make friends, or be confident. Believe in yourself, and never let anyone tell you, you're not beautiful - not even yourself." I found this video very empowering when I first watched it, it demonstrates the unrealistic expectations in media.

This video is very crucial in demonstrating the values and priorities in today's society. The way the media portrays women and the standards that are put in place and meant to be upheld. The ideal beauty type of being beautiful and perfect only creates a double standard in terms of beauty. Being beautiful and natural simultaneously is virtually impossible.

The social construction of beauty leads to a very negative perspective of women in today's society. This video is crucial to the topic of gender and how women will never be able to meet the current beauty standards. Society wants women to be natural yet look "Instagram ready", airbrushed and flawless. As well, when women are not "beautiful" or have flaws they are pestered on social media or through different forms of bullying. The outward appearance of women in media has become a main focus above other things like education, knowledge or personality of females.
