Did you attend Sailing Leadership Forum?

Leaders and influencers from training and education, yacht club and sailing organization management, race officials and industry professionals from around the country convened in this spectacular South Florida venue earlier this month to learn and celebrate.

532 sailors attended the third edition of Sailing Leadership Forum, including 155 first-time attendees! These participants learned from and connected with over 100 thought-provoking speakers in over 70 presentations.

Observations from a Safety at Sea Course

By Chuck Hawley

I had the pleasure of serving as the moderator for an International Offshore Safety at Sea Course with hands-on training at the Encinal Yacht Club in Alameda, California in the spring of 2017.

I came away with several observations from the weekend that I’d like to explore in future Safety at Sea Courses.

Expand Your Organization's Safety Standards

  • Does your organization host big boat regattas that require Safety at Sea training?
  • Do your members know what to do in crisis situations such as man overboard and heavy weather conditions?
  • Is your organization interested in hosting a Safety at Sea course?

If so, check out our US Sailing Certified Safety at Sea Course Offerings.

Safety Resources from Gowrie Group & Burgee Program

Gowrie Group and The Burgee Insurance Program are proud to offer a comprehensive suite of safety materials and resources for yacht clubs, community programs, and sailing organizations. You can access and download the resources from Gowrie Group’s Safety Resources Page: Emergency Card Template, Junior Sailing Safety Guide, Club & Sailing Organization Safety Manual, Dock Safety Guidelines, Safety Checklist, Hurricane Plan Template, and more.

SafeSport and US Sailing

The safety of our sailors is of paramount importance to US Sailing. US Sailing has a ZERO TOLERANCE for abuse and misconduct. This includes not only on-water safety, but also safety ashore in any part of US Sailing’s programs. US Sailing is committed to creating safe and fun environments for all of our sailors, youth and adult.

SafeSport helps raise awareness about misconduct in sport, promote open dialogue, and provide training and resources for our individual members, member organizations, athletes, coaches, parents, and volunteers. Everyone has a role to play in creating a healthy setting in our sport of sailing.

Stay tuned for a special edition of The Quarterdeck on SafeSport with more in-depth information on how SafeSport applies to you and your organization.

Do you Need to Certify your Instructors?

Take a peak at our course calendar or learn more about hosting a course at your organization.

Whether it is your first year instructing or you are a seasoned coach, there is a course for everyone!

Please contact US Sailing if you are interested in hosting a course at your location.

Is your Organization a First Sail Location?

You can be part of a growing community of organizations and locations that are introducing new sailors to the sport. Join the growing list of nearly 200 First Sail locations across the country.

Sailing Certification & Keelboat School Accreditation

Accredited US Sailing Keelboat schools offer superior instruction that will make your members' dream escape a reality. Whether planning to cruise over the horizon, or sail in local waters near home, your trained keelboat instructor can help your members gain the knowledge and the skills necessary to achieve their goals.

Need Certified Race Officials?

Clubs and race organizers often have difficulty finding race officials to run, judge and umpire local and regional races. US Sailing will help build your team.

US Sailing National Championships expose sailors to new disciplines, provide high-level competition with outstanding race management, skill development, and a great time on and off the water.

We have openings for a number of events over the next 3 years. Be a host!

Universal Certification System (UCS) for Processing ORR and ORC Certificates

A message from our partners at Sunsail:

Sailing is the most inclusive sport around, and can be enjoyed by everyone, regardless of age, sex, ability or boat. Sailing clubs around the U.S. play a key role in getting people out on the water, training them up and enabling them to sail. So, it is imperative that we do all we can to promote sailing clubs around the country as positively as possible. We want to help by establishing a partnership that will provide a member incentive for sailing clubs, including an exclusive discount and complimentary charter.
