By saying that people are capable, at any time in their lives of doing what they dream of, is implying that if they dream it they can achieve it no matter how long it takes. This quote reminds me that this is like the time I dreamed of becoming a dancer/performer. Growing up I thought it would never happen till I got into high school. It was like a passage opened and I saw an opportunity to do something that I dreamed of. Now looking back, seeing how far I've come, I never would have thought this would happen.
People who wants to listen to their heart choose to listen to their head. People who want to choose their own path listens to their heart and maybe sometimes their head. When you choose your heart over your head, you see that maybe it could be fate that your doing this. "If you want something you love, you chase after it," hearing that growing up from my family, knowing that they will support you on what you do. When I wanted to become a "superstar", my parents would always boost my confidence, always said that I would be the first in my family to make it big. My so called friends always told me that I was never able to do, due to me being to small, skinny, and weird. As much as I want to become a dancer/actor/performer, that isn't stopping me. Even though I'm still growing up, deep in my heart that is my dream.
The meaning of this quote highlights a truth we already know about the real purpose of any quest story: self knowledge and discovery. It is only through actions that learns what needs to be known to realize dreams. We learn lessons from everything we do in life, it call us to learn about the world by experiencing it. In life, someone tells you what you should or should not do, but it is until we go through the experience ourselves that we really learn the reason behind the advice/lesson. Throughout my life, I've been told never to do things, but it never stopped me to attempt these things. It felt a puzzle that I wanted to figure out. To attempt and learn from it.
“Heart” is a metaphor for knowing yourself. I think listening to one’s heart, they are actually talking about listening to one’s intuition, the gut feeling you have about something. When I had to tell someone I care about that I like them, it was the feeling that made me know that I will always care for this person and that this person will have a place in my heart. Sometimes hearts are like roller coasters of emotions. But the text suggests that if we keep listening, and paying attention to what makes us happy, then we can learn to understand our hearts despite their emotional fluctuations.
