About ME

Carolyn is originally from Los Angeles, California. She grew up in a bilingual family, as her parents are from Brazil, which is where her love of languages and cultures comes from. She first began teaching in Seoul, South Korea, where she taught English to elementary school students for three years and managed to learn enough Korean to successfully order McDonald's delivery to her apartment. After returning to the United States, she started working for Oakland Unified School District in 2012, eventually earning her teaching credential from the University of Southern California. She came to Fremont High as a student teacher in 2015, and stayed on since then, teaching Ethnic Studies and U.S. History to newcomer students. In her free time she enjoys falling asleep on the couch while watching Netflix shows, dancing bachata and merengue until the wee hours of the morning, and sitting in the In-n-Out drive-thru trying not to order a chocolate milkshake.
