Ballet dancers from In Motion dance studio raised $2,331 for #Hersmile through their two-day production of the musical “Cats” at Martinez Junior High School theater this month.

“#Hersmile has been near and dear to our heart since Jenna Betti passed. She was a student at In Motion,” said director Deena Roming, who participated in a production of “Cats” when she was 10.

Betti, 14, died March 2014 when she was struck by a train as she retrieved a dropped cell phone. Her family founded “#Hersmile” to help other families deal with grief.

For the In Motion production, dancers’ parents made the costumes and helped paint the performers’ faces. Erin Prsley, Leilani Neal, Ashton Smith and Roming created the choreography. Laura Patrick, a #Hersmile volunteer, received the check from the company.
