Dear Eastsiders

This past Sunday the energy in the room at Eastside was tangible. Many people had just returned from the 'It's Time' prayer event with full hearts and stories of God's greatness; as always the children and the teens were excited to be together; and we launched SIMPUL. If you missed the launch, we've tried to give you a 'quick read version' below.

We launched Simpul as a way to help us as Eastsiders "step into the room" where the unchurched are because reaching the unchurched is our main thing!

I want to encourage you this week to think how you could step into someone's "room".

As I preached on Sunday, the room you step into, carrying the presence of God, may be someone's crisis or difficulty where you have the opportunity to present them with hope; it could be the room at work, or your social circle. Whatever the room, consider how you could be an ambassador for Christ this weekend.

"We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us." - 2 Corinthians 5:20

It's Time

Be sure to read next week's edition to get the skinny on what happened at the "It's Time" Prayer Event in Bloemfontein last Saturday.

Here at Eastside our mission is to reach the unchurched and bring people closer to Jesus. But lets be honest: inviting family, friends and colleagues to church can be extremely daunting for many of us. This past Sunday we launched Simpul, a project that brings us as Eastsiders with similar interests together in more secular surroundings where we can invite friends to do what they love with us. Over the next couple of months we plan to start multiple Clubs, Groups and Communities where we can invite our unchurched friends to do the things they love with people who love the same things as them.

We believe Simpul is going to open doors for us to reach the unchurched and create communities where we as Christians can be a positive influence in people's lives with the hopes of teaching them about God through common interests and the formation of genuine friendships.

The first Simpul club we are starting is Simpul Running. Every Saturday, thousands of people - including many Eastsiders - do a ‘Parkrun’ This is a free 5km race at 8am at a number of locations. On the 13th of May, we want to get as many Eastsiders together at the Midstream Parkrun, to walk or run together; then join us for coffee afterwards.

Here’s how you can be involved

1. Register (if you haven’t yet) at www.parkrun.co.za and get a race barcode

2. If you can, buy a “Simpul” running shirt at the back of the hall on Sunday (R150 p/shirt). (We would love as many Eastsiders as possible to be rocking our “Simpul” shirts, but if you can’t get a shirt - no problem! You’re still welcome to join us)

3. Join our ‘Simpul Running’ group so we can send you information by clicking here.

4. Join us on 13th May at the Midstream Parkrun with a friend.

See you on the road!

It's happening! Tomorrow our tour to Israel kicks off. Please be in prayer for the 42 people who will be joining Mark for this life-changing tour of Israel. Pray that it will be a life changing experience for everyone, especially for the one unsaved person who will be on the tour. You can follow the tour, including Live streamed videos, on Mark's facebook page here.

Prepare for Sunday!

Robyn is preaching on the book of Haggai. You can prepare by reading the book in advance! It promises to be an exciting message.

Don't miss out!
