Motte and bailey castles by Georgia scanlon

In 1066 the Normans won the battle of Hastings. The Normans took over England and built over 500 castles in 1 year Harold , the Saxon, was shot in the eye. The castles were built 1000 years ago. They built castles to protect them selves. They were wood to start of but then they eventually turn in to stone . They made motte and bailey castles because they was easy to build.

The Normans built motte and bailey castles throughout England and Wales . Initially the castles were built from wood, but the wooden walls were rebuilt in to stone .

. Motte and bailey castles were built around 1066 to 1067 . At the battle of has of Hastings king Harold had a fight.Motte and bailey castles were made of wood first. The village was the food production center of medevel society.

Everyday life

They did not have toilets. They poo went through a howl in the wall then I went to the motte and they made the bread in the backer and it went to the moat .


. Drawbridges could be pulled up preventing across mounts. Murderholes was openings in ceiling just in front of in the gate or the passage below . The defender could fire missiles through gaps to kill attackers.
