plate boundaries by isaac meeker

Motion and stress on the plates

Divergent plates move away from each other also they have tension stress. Transform plates slide past each other horizontally they have shear stress.Convergent plates collide with each other to make a convergent boundary they have compression stress.

mt. everst

All of these create earthquakes and volcanoes but some also make ocean ridges and cracks in the earth. Also there is mountains and volcanos there are some good examples like mt. Everest and the himalayans.

Mauna Loa is also a creation of these boundaries
This is a result of earth quakes this happens with every boundary

A real world event that happened along a divergent boundary is the seafloor spreading and since the lava was so close to the shore toxic gas and water were in it and a landslide happened and it killed a lot of people this event happened august 21, 1986 lake nyus . A real world event that happened on a transform boundary was San Francisco, California: April 18, 1906 (Magnitude: About 8) this earthquake cause brick buildings to fall also it caused the death of 500 people.Pacific Ring of Fire, where the Pacific Plate meets many surrounding plates. The Ring of Fire is the most seismically and volcanically active zone in the world. On March 10, 1933 at 5:54 p.m., a magnitude 6.4 earthquake hit the Newport-Inglewood Fault, causing serious damage in Long Beach and other communities. The earthquake resulted in 120 deaths and more than $50 million in property damage. Most of the damaged buildings were of unreinforced masonry.

this is the ring of fire the most active volcanoes are here
