2019 Reporting

REPORTS WILL BE COMING HOME NEXT WEEK, PLEASE KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR THEM

Thank you to those parents that responded to our Reporting Survey last term. We have incorporated some of your suggestions into the format as well as continuing to include the personalised touches for our 4R's and Playful Learning comments. The end of year report this year now includes references to benchmarks achieved against the levels in the New Zealand Curriculum as schools no longer use National Standards.

The diagram below shows how curriculum levels typically relate to years at school. Many students, especially in the early years of schooling, do not necessarily fit this pattern and it quite usual for a child to be working across two levels. They may still be mastering some learning at the lower / middle level while also achieving aspects of learning in the higher level.

If you look at Year 2 you will see that this year group sits in the darker, central shaded area of Level 1 as well as the lighter shaded, lower part of Level 2. This means that the expected benchmark in Year 2 is Level 1 with some learning area being early and mid Level 2.

With the removal of National Standards we have also been able to shift our focus and notice each child's individual progress and their associated developmentally appropriate growth and progress. We have worked hard to create a culture of self efficacy: giving each child the opportunity to develop the confidence in themselves as learners and experience their own kind of success. We hope that you have also seen your child's self belief and confidence blossom during their time in Kea.

Tikorangi Taonga

In Kea hub we value Play as a mode of learning - where children get to explore, experiment, discover and solve problems in imaginative and playful ways. This way of learning helps us to realise the vision of the New Zealand Curriculum to... "develop confident, connected, actively involved, lifelong learners".

This year, your child's journey through play has been documented in a series of Learning Stories. These have been collated into their Tikorangi Taonga portfolio. The Learning Stories are a collection of moments captured in authentic contexts where the learning is either social, developmental or academic. This kind of reporting allows us to notice the deep learning: how the child's identity is shared with others, how the children are emotionally engaged in their learning path and the uniqueness of each child's creativity and imagination.

We would love it if you were able to call in, take a moment with your child to share their Taonga and celebrate together all the wonderful moments from this year.

THANK YOU

I count myself extremely lucky to have spent the year with this creative, curious, funny and imaginative group of children. I am definitely working through a bunch of mixed emotions as I prepare to say goodbye to everyone! The children in Kea hub have sealed a spot in my heart forever and I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to see them grow into their own kind of special souls. I have been a professional learning journey of my own for the past couple of years at Tikorangi, and I am blessed to be have been able to explore where my true passion lies - to become a better kind of teacher that puts the children in the centre of all that I do. I have appreciated all the support, laughter and kind words from you all and hope you and your families the enjoy the most amazing times ahead. Please remember that your children are the reason we do what we do and that we value each and every one of them for the beautiful, unique little creatures they are. Arohanui, Max
