YTH GRP APRIL

GRADES 7-12

We are in the midst of a series called Jesus Loves ________. An overview of this series is: Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so." If you grew up going to church, it's probably the first song about Jesus you can remember singing. "Jesus loves me" may seem like a pretty straightforward and foundational belief, but let's be honest . . . singing about Jesus' love is a lot easier than actually imitating it. In this 4-week series, we’ll challenge students to observe, imitate, and be transformed by the radical love of Jesus for all people, but specifically His love for children, for the poor, for the stranger, and for the sinner.

The middle of April we will transition to a one week series called Good Story. For some of us, the Easter/Resurrection story is a little unclear. (It has something to do with Jesus dyeing Easter eggs with a rabbit, right?) For others, we've heard the Easter/Resurrection story, seen the Easter/Resurrection plays, and attended Easter/Resurrection services so many times that it has almost become white noise. In this Easter series, we’ll challenge students' assumptions and attitudes about the Easter story as you help them see that the story of Jesus' death and resurrection is more than just a story—it's true! And it's good news for the entire world.

We will launch into the end of April and start a series called Meant to be. It’s all about WISDOM in relationships and dating. More to come with this in the parent newsletter. If you aren’t getting it, please contact Pastor Patrick p.sebey@opendoornewlondon.org to get on the list!

GRADES 5-6

The 5&6 graders are going the a series on prayer, called change. Here is a bit more about that: If you were granted three wishes, it would probably be pretty easy to come up with three things you wish you could change about your life or the world around you. Maybe that’s because we know the world isn’t always the way it should be – and neither are we. In this 4-week series, we’ll challenge students to seek change in the world and in their own hearts by turning to God in prayer. Because prayer equals change when we begin and end with God, pray with God’s own words, pray like Jesus prayed, and pray for what matters most. After this series they will also jump into the series Good Story like the 7-12th graders.

VBS

Looking forward to May, we will be wrapping up the 5&6th grade year on May 15th. Don’t worry, we will have activities and teaching throughout the summer including our 4 week VBS in July!
