Saluting Our Support Staff Thank you Classified Staff!

This week, I was once again reminded of just how grateful I am for our tremendous support staff.

Our maintenance crews plowed snow through the night so that we could reopen our schools as soon as possible. Our bus drivers navigated snow-covered streets to bring students to school safely. Our custodial staff members worked hard to clear snow around schools.

This week was a great reminder that we have an incredible crew of support staff members who are willing to go above and beyond when needed. While this week was certainly out of the ordinary, I believe our classified staff members provide extraordinary service every day.

It just so happens that next week is the perfect time to acknowledge the hard work of these staff members, as it is Classified Staff Appreciation Week.

Our more than 890 classified staff are a very diverse group who do so much for our schools. Every day our support staff members are helping keep our schools running smoothly - from answering our phones and keeping our books to serving our meals and assisting in our classrooms.

Classified Staff Appreciation Week is March 4-8 - and I hope you'll take a moment to help me salute all of our dedicated support staff members and share thanks for all that they do. Truly, our schools could not operate without our classified staff members!

Here are a few of the many ways our classified staff members support our students and schools:

Information Technology

Our Information Technology staff members support more than 25,000 devices, from computers to iPads.

Our bus drivers transport more than 5,000 students every morning and afternoon - for a total of about 10,000 students each day!

Office Staff Members

Our office staff members have a wide range of duties - from managing spreadsheets to comforting upset students, these staff members do it all!

Maintenance and Custodial

Our maintenance and custodial crews maintain more than 2.65 million square feet of school building space.

Nutrition Services

Our Nutrition Services staff members serve more than 17,000 meals every school day. That's more than 2.5 million meals a year!

Educational Assistants

Our more than 300 educational assistants support students and teachers in our schools — assisting with reading groups, special programs and so much more.

These staff members help us create exceptional schools. I hope you'll join me in saying thank you!
