Update from Pastor Kris

Saints of Shawnee Alliance,

Why do we do Trunk-N-Treat? I think there are a lot of good answers. It's one of the largest outreach events in our community. It's a lot of fun, and we have a great time. We get to be good neighbors to our community with few sidewalks or street lights. My answer is simple - Trunk-N-Treat is a handshake to the community.

We believe that our church is called to not only be a part of our community, but to be a blessing by opening up our facilities, hands, and hearts in service. This year we will continue our tradition of being great neighbors and loving our neighbor as ourselves. But we do not measure success by numbers of cars, tons of candy distributed, or the number of trunks that we line up. We measure success in transformed lives.

How does passing out candy from the back of a car contribute toward our goal of transformed lives? It is easy for a church to say "We love our community." Stopping all we do to provide a service for our community shows our love for our community. It establishes Shawnee Alliance as a people who care, and creates a bridge into our ministries -- everything from Sunday morning worship to Upward Sports, to Grief Share, Divorce Care, and a host of other opportunities -- to share Christ with those around us.

Please join me in serving at Trunk-N-Treat on October 27 at 6:30-8pm. We have many opportunities to serve including decorating a trunk, volunteering for parking, monitoring games, candy running, and clean-up. To register now visit shawneealliance.com/events, and if you have any questions contact Erin at erin@shawneealliance.com.

Blessings,

Kris

Pastor & Staff Appreciation

October is Pastor & Staff Appreciation Month. The many challenges and changes of this season have required more time, effort and energy from our pastors and staff. This is a great opportunity to show your hard-working pastors and staff how much you appreciate them in the work they do for the church! Maybe the person you want to encourage doesn't hold the position of pastor - you can take this time to reach out and thank them as well! Any way you would like to thank or bless the staff goes a long way to give them the encouragement to help energize them for another day, week, or month.

How can I be a blessing? A personal note of encouragement is always appreciated! Some other ideas could be a grocery, restaurant or gas card; inviting them to dinner; or dropping off a meal (lunch for the pastors and staff in the office, or dinner for them and their families to enjoy). If if you have a group that wants to work together, you could even provide a meal train to multiply your blessing!

Please pray for your pastors and staff! Please be praying for renewed strength, as well as clear vision and guidance for leading and serving well.

Denise Darbyshire, Prayer Coordinator

Bible Reading Plan

Bring transformation to your life by reading your Bible! You will get to know Jesus on a deeper level and learn wisdom for your everyday choices. You can find a free Bible in any of our church lobbies. Please feel free to take one when you're with us at church on Sunday or download the YouVersion app on your phone. Use this simple SOAP format to guide your interaction with God's Word:

  • Scripture. Take your time reading each chapter and allow God to speak to you.
  • Observation. What do you see God doing in the Scripture? What is God saying to you?
  • Application. Ask yourself how you can apply this to your life right now.
  • Prayer. Communicate with God and ask Him to help you apply this to your life.

Try it out this week! Add a chapter from Proverbs every day to the below plan. (This list is also posted every Sunday on social media.)
