What is a Tornado?
A tornado is a skinny, powerful rotating cylinder of wind. It is in the shape of a funnel. Tornadoes are strong enough that they can tear off roofs of houses, WOWZER!! Some tornadoes have been known to spin faster than one car wheel. Tornadoes can cause tremendous damage depending on what kind of tornado it is. Tornadoes have to touch the ground before you know its an actual tornado. Some lighting can be around tornadoes! A tornadoes wind speed can be over 300 miles per hour.
HOW DO TORNADOES FORM?
For a tornado to form , there has to be a thunderstorm.Spring and Summer are the seasons when tornadoes form. Warm air and cold air masses meet together. The wind keeps spinning the air, until the funnel forms. The air gets spun as the tornado moves it along.
HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?
Tornadoes are known to last at least 10 minutes. But some tornadoes last more than one whole hour.
HOW POWERFUL CAN THEY BE?
Tornadoes are known to have the most winds on earth! Each tornado can cause over 80 deaths or more. And 1,500 injuries.
WHERE DO TORNADOES HAPPEN?
Tornadoes happen in Kansas,Oklahoma,Nebraska,South Dakota,North Dakota,Texas,Iowa,Missouri,Louisiana and Arkansas!
