Madison Hernandez is a Fourth Grader at Lytle Elementary She wrote a poem about riding a roller coaster and she talks about her experience in a video. Scroll this page to see her project and read about her learning.

I think the hardest part was rhyming with the words I wrote. I got through it by focusing and taking my time. I also think the easiest part was putting feelings into my writing.

I wrote a poem about when I went on the Boomerang rollercoaster at Six Flags. I was assigned to write this by Mrs. Barrientos.

I learned a lot about rhyming. I would like to learn more about adding in repetition and personification into my poems.

Mrs. Barrientos is a kind and loving teacher. She pushes me to work harder and become a successful student!
Fourth grade teacher, Ms. Erica Barrientos gives some insight into this project, "This activity was designed to teach students how to add feeling and emotion to a poem and to understand how adding these traits makes the reader connect to the poem. After viewing poetry examples read by 4th grade teachers and thinking about the reflection questions asked, students were then asked to write a poem describing their personality or feelings they felt during a specific moment in their lives. Madison did a great job capturing the feelings she felt during an intense roller coaster ride. She makes the reader feel as if they were on the ride with her. She did an excellent job and her writing allows the reader to make a connection to her experience. Through her great work, it is evident that she not only learned and understood the material but also is an amazing poet."
