Job Description: Investigates and analyzes drugs, chemicals, and other substances to discover how they affect biological systems and assess how they can be used safely

Work Environment: Spend majority of times in laboratories although many also teach. Pharmacologists work in private industries, hospitals, universities, and government agencies.

Education: Certain low-level jobs require only a bachelor's or master's degree, most employers require at least a Ph.D. in one of the life sciences such as biology. Some pharmacologists earn a medical degree in addition to a doctorate in biological science.

School(s): You can become a pharmacologist at Yale University, Colombia University In The City Of New York, University Of Pennsylvania, and Duke University. The time it takes to earn a Ph.D. requires six years alongside the time it takes to earn a bachelor's degree (four years).

Most Pharmacologists advance by continuing their education and they often become experts in one area of pharmacology. They also may lead research teams or university departments.
