Johnson Memorial Health Services (JMHS) is a progressive, modern medical facility that offers a wide variety of outreach and specialized services. We are comprised of a Critical Access Hospital, 2 Rural Health Clinics, a 14-bed Assisted Living, and a 56-bed Care Center.
We are a Trauma IV Designated Hospital and our Care Center has a 5-Star Rating. In addition we have a successful Baratric Clinic practice. In 2018 alone, our bariatric patients have lost a total of 2,120 pounds!
Through both fiscal responsibility and receiving more than $2.5 million in grants over the last 10 years, JMHS has been able to continue to pursue innovative solutions in areas of technology, healthcare, population health, and community wellness.
JMHS has been awarded and recognized at both the state and national levels for exceptional quality of care and an environment of collegiality. We also have a history of working collaboratively with our neighbors both within our community, as well as with our neighboring communities, in order to meet the needs of our community members of all ages.
In 2016 we began a $25.6 million capital building and renovation project. The new 58,206 square foot Care Center was completed in June of 2018. The new space features 56-private rooms with an attached handicapped accessible bathroom with shower. The updated homey environment inspired us to become an Eden Certified facility (the only one in Minnesota). The space also includes a Day Care for infants and toddlers.
The Surgery Suite was completed in January 2019. The 5,133 square feet secured space provides an efficient and convenient area for staff, physicians and patients. It features five dedicated pre and post-op rooms, a procedure room, and an operating room.
The new space has allowed us to increase our scope of services to include: total knee and hip replacements, pacemaker & defibrillator insertions, foot & ankle, ENT, general, urology, ophthalmology, and OB/GYN surgical procedures.
The new clinic/hospital entrance will be finalized in the fall of 2019. Other renovations include connecting the entire campus with above ground links, dedicated outreach clinic space, telemedicine room, relocating and updating the oncology suite, expanding the laboratory, updating hospital patient rooms, and a new parking lot and helipad.
These physical upgrades provide state-of-the-art spaces for our patients to recieve care, and our staff and medical providers to give quality care.
Keeping care local is essential for the well-being of our patients and their families, and helps fulfill our mission of Delivering Excellence in Health Care to our Local Community and Beyond.
The City of Dawson is a progressive community located on the prairies of west central Minnesota, maintaining a quality of life surpassed by none. The city excels with excellent school and health care systems, promotion of new industry and the support of existing businesses.
This community is blessed with many active and caring people which have supported the parks, golf course, and the new aquatic center providing recreation to both young and old alike. The Dawson/Boyd Arts Center satisfies our appetite for the arts and theater.
The Lac qui Parle River flows through the community providing an environment that promotes nature and a sense of peace and calm. Dawson’s walking trail is located adjacent to the river encompassed by trees, flowers, and native vegetation providing a sanctuary for everything and everyone.
Beautifully renovated homes, well kept lawns and gardens are a common sight in Dawson. From the renovation of older homes, the building of new homes, apartments and townhouses, Dawson offers a variety of fine living.
Dawson has strong community leaders with citizens that are committed to seeing our community grow. Groups like Farmers for Dawson, Dawson Development, and an active Chamber work together to ensure the city’s future continues to look bright. In the last census, Dawson was the smallest rural community in the area to have a population increase. With an elderly population well above the state average, this represents growth with people moving back, or to, our beautiful city. Dawson truly is a great place to live, work and play!
