Technology Integration Program manager
“I chose to major in International Business; Japanese for two simple reasons.” Dave explains, “First I wanted a practical major that would give me useful technical skills that could help me be successful. Second, we work in a global market and to be successful I knew I needed to successfully operate on a global level.” As for how he came to select Japanese, that was largely due to the time Dave spent in the Marines which introduced him to Japanese culture and language, sparking a curiosity.
Thanks to his education, Dave’s careers have taken him all over the world. He has worked as a precious metal trader for a Japanese financial trading company on the London Metal Exchange, and today as a Technology Integration Program manager for a large technology company. He has successfully managed projects in Japan, China, Germany, UK, Poland, Czech Republic, France, Italy, Spain, U.S., and Canada.
Dave credits much of his success to the training he received here at CSUF, stating “The International Business Japanese program is incredibly well balanced. It has both strong business training, and the humanities (which are surprisingly important)” adding, “After I entered the business world I realized the program provided me with a wide range of skills that most people don't possess.” Citing the hard-business skills he learned such as statistics, supply chain management, and process design, and how those dovetail nicely with the cross-cultural and language and communications skills he also received.
Dave says that he has found that, even though he focused specifically on Japanese culture and language, the skills have translated into an ability for him to communicate more effectively in cross discipline and multi-cultural project teams as well. An asset that will continue to benefit him more and more as our world become increasingly interconnected.
