Net Primary Productivity

The elevation of my biome separates the mountains from all of the other biomes, with there being different kinds of life throughout the mountains, with there being less life as you get higher in elevation.

Soil Quality

At the base of the mountain the soil is fertile, and as you go higher up the soil fertility goes down, and the soil isn't good as you reach the peak.

Invasive and Endangered

Invasive Species - Himalayan Balsam

Himalayan Balsam was purposefully introduced to the Himalayan Mountains by humans that brought the plant there for cultivating purposes. The plants flowers can be used to make jams and parfaits. It started spreading like a weed, causing problems and beating out competitors easily.

Endangered - Red Panda

The Red Panda is found in the Himalayan Mountains. It is endangered because of habitat loss (H in HIPPCO), and poaching (O in HIPPCO).

Animals in the Himalayan Mountains

Domestic Yaks

Domestic Yaks have long, dense hair to help them stay warm when it's cold out. They have large lungs and a large heart so that it is easier for them to survive at higher altitudes.

Himalayan Black Bear

The Himalayan Black Bear has very thick fur that helps them survive in cold environments such as that of the Himalayas.

Musk Deer

The Musk Deer has a small frame to make it easier for them to hid from predators, and it allows them to run faster.

Plants in the Himalayan Mountains

Bearberry plants have adapted to live and thrive at high altitudes such as the high altitudes of the mountains of the Himalayas.

Bamboo has very strong compressive strength, that is stronger than wood, brick, and concrete that helps it stay standing on the Himalayan Mountains.

Rhododendron is a flower that is commonly found in meadows in the Himalayan Mountains. Species of these flowers have been used in modern era medicine.
