NORTHAMPTON SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA 2019 / 2020 A season of contrasts

A Note from John Gibbons BEM

After the whirlwind of our 125th season celebrations, the NSO will be presenting a series of concerts for 2019 /20 each with its own flavour - a mix of familiar favourites and hidden treasures. Highlights of the season will include works by Northampton's own Sir Malcolm Arnold alongside Rachmaninov's best-loved Piano Concerto; a fancy dress Heroes and Villains Christmas Cracker; Bruckner's great Symphony No. 4 - 'The Romantic"; Beethoven's Symphony No. 6 paired with George Lloyd's Symphony No. 6; and, in a similar contrast, George Gershwin's Porgy and Bess: A Symphonic Picture paired with William Grant Still's Afro American Symphony - plus many more exciting pieces outlined in this brochure.

We are also excited that for the first time the NSO will be performing a concert at Clifton Cathedral in Bristol in November as an addition to our normal concert season.

I am pleased, as always, to welcome you to our season, and know you will find something new and enjoyable in each of our concert programmes.
