News from Harris

Stay connected with the latest from Harris!

NWEA: Students will take the NWEA Beginning-of-the-Year Test for math and reading over the next couple of weeks.

Parent Volunteers: Our volunteer profile form is available for the 19-20 school year. Just click the link below! You have to be approved to work as a classroom volunteer and to chaperone field trips. The system has a delay, so you want to be sure to take care of this well in advance of volunteering.

Lunch Accounts: You may put lunch money in your child's account at www.ezschoolpay.com. There is a small fee and you will need your child's student number found in PowerSchool. Lunch money may also be submitted by check. Please be sure to keep your child's lunch account in good standing. Additionally, our cafeteria computer system does not have the capabilities to put a "block" on student lunch accounts for purchasing extra lunch items. Please talk to your child if you do not want them purchasing extra items.

Book Rental: You may still submit this if you have not. Thanks to those who have already paid or set up payment plans. If you are on a deferred payment, then the due date will be about one month from now. You will also be able to pay at Meet-Your-Teacher Night on July 31st or send a check to school with your child on the first day of school. Click on the button for the fees.

Employment: GC still has several positions open. Please check out these opportunities by visiting the postings on our district employment page.

Transportation: If your child will have a different way to go home at the end of the day and you know ahead of time, please write a note or email the teacher. If it is a last minute change, please call the Harris school office by 1:30 pm on that day. After school begins, we will send home information with your child on how to sign up for School Dismissal Manager, which is an app based program that allows you to easily make dismissal and attendance changes from your devices. We will go live with this program as our primary way to make transportation changes on August 19th.

School Dismissal Manager Update

School Dismissal Manager: YOU ARE NOW ABLE TO SET THIS UP. Today, Friday August 9, 2019, you should have received an email invite from School Dismissal Manager with information on how to set up your account and and make changes. If you did not please start by checking your SPAM filter for this. If you still don't find it, please give us a call on Monday. We also sent home a paper copy of the instructions. Attached in the buttons below is a copy of the letter and a quick reference guide if you are new to using SDM. We will use only this system starting on August 19, 2019.

Pick Up and Drop Off Reminders:. For the safety of our students and families, please ONLY use the car line to drop off and pick up. If you need to walk with your child to the entrance, you will need to park in the north parking lot (closest to the playground) and walk your child around using the sidewalk. Do not walk through the car line to pick up and drop off your child. Thank you for helping keep every child safe. Finally, students entering and exiting the car should do so against the curb (passenger side). This helps ensures that students are not walking in front of a moving car.

REMINDER: Please do not walk in front of cars. Use the far north lot and the sidewalks that connect to our drop off location.

School Bus Stop Arm Safety: Did you know that the laws in Indiana have changed and are now tougher. Click below for more info.

PTO: Thank you for stopping to check out our PTO table at our Meet-Your-Teacher night. If you need to contact our PTO, you may reach them by sending a message to gcharrispto@gmail.com. Their first meeting is Wednesday, Sept. 11 @ 2:30 PM here at Harris.

Immunizations: If you have not turned in your child's shot records, you will receive a letter in the mail in the next few days, and we will be contacting you by phone. If you are unsure of your status, please feel free to reach out to us. All records must be received by 8:00 am on September 20th. The Hancock Health Department offers immunizations and you can contact them to set this up. If you need assistance contact our school nurse at cbarkdull@gcsc.k12.in.us or call us at 317-467-6731.

FAMILY EDUCATION AND PRIVACY RIGHTS ACT: The law guarantees your family rights to privacy in school matters. You must notify the principal by September 1, or within fifteen days of enrollment (whichever is later in the school year) if you do not want your child's photo or name to appear in school-sponsored publications. This includes, newsletters, school directories, honor roll or awards lists, promotion rosters, athletic programs, etc.

Attendance: We encourage all of our students to attend school whenever they are well enough to do so. Good school attendance is important in helping students achieve academic and social/emotional success.

Perfect Attendance: This is defined as ALL day of EVERY day. We understand that this is an important achievement for many students, but nothing is more important than your student’s health, so do not send them to school if they are ill simply so that they can receive this award at the end of the year.

PowerSchool: Due to a recent update to this system, you may be asked to update your password when logging in. If you need assistance, please contact our main office.
