Family of Friends Mentoring 2019 Annual report

1,200+ fun, safe activities provided for kids!
From the Director

The impact of mentoring for youth, families and our volunteers is what drives us to do this work. This year we interviewed more than 20 parents to learn about how kids were changing as a result of mentoring and to keep us centered in the voices of our participants. What we heard blew us away. In these pages, we’re humbled to share a tiny sprinkle of the confidence, spark and pathways to exploration and learning that are happening for our young people. This is why we’re here.

We thank you for your engagement in this work. Please help us continue to lift up the voices of our incredible kids and their families. Bring your talents, resources, and generous heart to the table, and together we will build a brighter future for our neighborhoods and families!

-Michelle Kosta, Executive Director

Sean, age 9, with mentors JP and Heidi
“Sean’s mentors bolster me up, too. They’re on my side and Sean’s side. They respect my position as a parent. They’re supportive of both of us.” –Julie, mother of Sean, mentee
“My mentor helps me come out of my cocoon. We balance each other out. We help each other find the meanings of things. Mentors go through things with you, and they don’t want you to be alone while you’re going through it.” –Yaslene, mentee, pictured with mentor Grace
“Being a mentor is a gift, being part of the community in this way, getting to know my mentee in this way is a complete gift.” –Suzanne, mentor, pictured with Yajahira, age 10.
Jennifer, age 7, with mentor Delia
“I am motivated and committed to supporting the Latino community and becoming a mentor gives me the opportunity to make a positive impact in the life of a Latina student. It has also opened the door for me to share time with Jennifer’s family. They have been very welcoming!” – Delia, mentor
