Family of Friends Mentoring 2018 Annual Report

Morris, age 11, with mentor Richard.

On their first day of mentor training, we ask volunteers to list qualities they admire in kids. Words like honesty, creativity, resiliency and fun inevitably pop up. As we celebrate a successful second year in Gresham, we let ourselves be guided by these qualities our youth bring to the table. Their earnest desire to learn and grow reminds us of our responsibility and privilege to make their needs and voices a priority. We invite you to join us in this mission. Bring your talents, resources and generous heart to the table, and together we will build a brighter future for our kids and community!

Jerry Hinton, mentor to Bienvenue, says, “My mentee, and especially his mother, have been a great inspiration to me. She has sacrificed so much, all for the hope that her family may have a better life in the future.”
LaMika, age 10, with mentor Alanna.
Mentor Alanna says, “LaMika seems more confident and more adventurous than when we first met. Her worldview is growing, and it makes me so happy!”
Mentee John with Gresham Mayor Shane Bemis.
“I support this program because it works. My own son did his best when he had a mentor in his life, and I love knowing that there is a program right here in Gresham creating those relationships for kids who need it.” –Kathleen Ris, donor
