Mahabalipuram also known as old Mammalipuram is in district of Kancheepuram of Tamil Nadu, 60 km away from capital Chennai. It is an ancient historic town with monuments and temples followed by a beach.

The tourist attractions in Mahabalipuram are mostly temples and caves that are made from rock in the 7th and 8th Century.

There are five Rathas (a groups of temples in the form of chariots.

Mahabalipuram is famous for its caves of sanctuaries and a giant open air rock reliefs such as famous Descent of the Ganges and the Shore Temple with thousands of sculptures. Shore temple is near the beach side of Mahabalipuram which is a famous area for tourists. Different kind of stalls which sells unique products of Mahabalipuram known as art sculptures of Buddahs and items made from shells are available in the walkway to the beach.

The group of monuments in Mahabalipuram has been classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Mahabalipuram is a tourist destination in India. Thousands of tourists from other countries and also from India visit to see the area every year.

Though Mahabalipuram is a tourist destination the facilities available in the area is not up to the visitor’s needs.

The roads are blocked because there is no proper parking facilities in the area.

There is no proper accommodation facilities available in the area because the hotels in the area are not good.

The roads are full of trash.

As India is one of the fastest growing tourism industry in the world, this condition may affect the tourism in the area.

This is the high time for the officials have to consider about the situation in Mahabalipuram area to maintain tourism.
