Athletes in the Crowd Writers: Mitchell Sterlitz & Dylan Lorincz

Charlotte Schultz is a sophomore on the Women’s Varsity Swim and Dive team and is one of the top swimmers in the program. Her best strokes are freestyle and backstroke, with her best event being the 200 free. She recorded a 1:53.47 in this event at the state meet. “My biggest accomplishment was last year when I got on the podium [at states] (3rd) with Sarah Zofchak (6th) and Annette [Schultz] (1st),” Schultz said. “My goal for this year is to place top three at states in one of my events,” Schultz said.

Nathan Larson won SECs this year and placed 22nd at the state meet. He led his team with his 15:47 5k time and 4:39 mile time. To start the season he was not ranked in the top 50 in the state for men’s Cross Country. Compared to his sophomore year, he has improved by 130 places and helped the team to finish third in the state. “The team exceeded our goals,” he said. Individually, Larson is looking to finish top 10 in the state in his senior campaign. “I’m looking forward to having my best season and help lead the team to another top 5 finish,” he said.

Claire Vaughn is a captain as a junior on the Dexter Field Hockey team. “Our biggest team accomplishment this year was definitely beating Huron 4-0.” She had 2 goals that game. This game was payback for the state championship last year, when the Dreads fell to the River Rats 2-1. Although focused on this season, Vaughn has her sights set on the future. “I’m in the middle of the recruiting process and I’m looking to play Division 1 Field Hockey in college,” Vaughn said.
