Shakespeare's Life joseph sena p.4

Early Life

Title:

The beginning

Direct Quote:

“From 1594 to 1608, he was fully involved in the London theater world. In addition to his duties as a sharer and actor in the Lord Chamberlain’s Men, he wrote an average of almost two plays a year for his company”("William")

My Ideas:

Shakespeare became extremely famous shortly after a relatively brief time of informational silence. Luckily this time is much more documented.

Title:

shakespeares education

Direct Quote:

“His parents were illiterate; he grew up in a small provincial town in which lived no more than a handful of educated men. His schooling ended at thirteen”(Rubinstein)

My Ideas:

His school in his hometown has been preserved close to how he saw it as a child and a later as an adult. His rigorous schooling may have been part of what made him so successful.

Title:

background on shakespeare

Direct Quote:

“William Shakespeare was born in the small market town of Stratford-upon-Avon in 1564, the third of eight children.”

My Ideas:

Being the birthplace of Shakespeare, Stratford has become a popular tourist attraction. His house has been preserved mostly as it was when he lived there.

Middle Life

Title:

His Works

Direct Quote:

“Shakespeare wrote at least 38 plays, two major narrative poems, a sequence of sonnets, and several short poems"("William")

Title:

no info years

Direct Quote:

“Nothing is known of the period between the birth of the twins and Shakespeare's emergence as a playwright in London (c.1592). However, various suggestions have been made regarding this time, including those that he fled Stratford to avoid prosecution for stealing deer, that he joined a group of traveling players, and that he was a country schoolteacher”("William")

My Ideas:

It seems likely that he was a school teacher. Considering it is unlikely he just became such a fantastic writer in a short span of time, he probably could have taught a lot about writing and literature to children.

Title:

play info

Direct Quote:

“The chronology of Shakespeare's plays is uncertain, but a reasonable approximation of their order can be inferred from dates of publication, references in contemporary writings, allusions in the plays to contemporary events, thematic relationships, and metrical and stylistic comparisons”("William").

My Ideas:

It's very convenient that Shakespeare used topical humor in some of his plays. If he had not it would have been much harder to know when they were made.

Late Life

Title:

Shakespeare's lasting influence

Direct Quote:

“His plays continue to be performed, studied, and appropriated worldwide, and he is credited with introducing 300 words and dozens of well-known phrases into the English language”(RAVILIOUS)

My Ideas:

Looking at lists of words that Shakespeare made from his plays shows that many of them are words used in daily conversation. It is thought that he made more than three hundred words but some of them were already around before him, he was just the first place that they were written down.

Title:

Shakespeare returning to his home

Direct Quote:

“Soon after, in 1597, the 33-year-old playwright, who was by that time the talk of London, was drawn back to his roots in Stratford-upon-Avon, the small market town about 100 miles northwest of London, where he was born. Records show that he bought New Place, the second largest house in town”(RAVILIOUS)

My Ideas:

Shakespeare, although not quite considered rich, still made quite a lot of money in his life. This nice house in an area that he was most likely sentimental towards was most likely not a huge investment for him.

Title:

Lasting influence

Direct Quote:

“...already the game's afoot to prepare major commemorations in 2016, the 400th anniversary of the Bard's death”(Ellis)

My Ideas:

He has left an amazing lasting effect on our language and our society. Some say that it is more important to have quality over quantity but Shakespeare has given the world both.
