Xaverine MA Bates Artist

Xaverine M A Bates is a multi-disciplinary artist who lives between worlds. Three years ago she had a life-changing experience, which resulted in a powerful and painful journey into the underworld, populated by demons and ghouls, which ended her life as she had known it, killing off a misdirected ego, who had lost its way many years ago.

MedsHead, mixed media, 2015

Through therapeutic interventions, she has journeyed back into the ordinary world, but continues to straddle the depths and the heavens, staying grounded through ritual, therapy, connection and creativity.

Miss Havisham & the Ghost, mixed media, 2014

She uses the power of her art practice as a potent therapeutic tool to understand her demons and express her joy at being given an insight into the divine and another chance at life. She crosses mediums, embracing photography, performance, poetry, installation, drawing and sculpture: an idea will emerge and the medium forms itself around it - each gently guided by itself.

She has collaborated with other artists on many occasions and loves the transformative process of collaboration: the fusion of ideas to create something altogether new.

Her name, Xaverine, means Splendid. Through her practice, she is taking the hand of the terrified little girl she once was and leading her into her own light.
