Driving health in the Dales Darley Dale Medical Centre, Derbyshire

“General practice plays an important and crucial role, providing high-quality care to millions of patients every day and so we welcome the investment Darley Dale Medical Centre is making with their new premises in anticipation of future demand. Their investment is testament to their commitment to improving access to GP services and to increasing the range of services they can offer to help support patients to manage their conditions effectively in a community setting.” Dr Chris Clayton, Chief Executive Officer of Derbyshire Clinical Commissioning Groups, 2017

As the practice serving patients across the Derbyshire countryside, Darley Dale Medical Centre needed to replace its 20 year-old building in the town - a core piece of the community's infrastructure.

The practice's existing premises were cramped: there weren't enough clinical rooms and the layout no longer worked for the team. The design couldn't meet the needs of patients with disabilities and parking was limited. With an increasingly ageing population reliant on the practice, new premises would be fundamental to delivering the health services needed by patients in this rural patch, close to home.

So began the journey to create brand new premises for the practice, on a site just 200m from the existing surgery building - funded by Assura and developed by MedCentres.

The project delivered state-of-the-art primary care space for the team, including light and airy waiting areas and rooms for consulting, treatment, training and new services for patients.

"We’re incredibly excited to have moved into our new practice. The facilities are state-of-the-art and will be a brand new space for our patients and staff to enjoy. The wide open space will provide a calming environment for our patients improving their experience.” Dr Ed Oakley, lead GP
