"After this I looked, and there before me was a door standing open in heaven. And the voice I had first heard speaking to me like a trumpet said, “Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this.” At once I was in the Spirit, and there before me was a throne in heaven with someone sitting on it. And the one who sat there had the appearance of jasper and carnelian. A rainbow, resembling an emerald, encircled the throne. Surrounding the throne were twenty-four other thrones, and seated on them were twenty-four elders. They were dressed in white and had crowns of gold on their heads. From the throne came flashes of lightning, rumblings and peals of thunder. Before the throne, seven lamps were blazing. These are the seven spirits of God. Also before the throne there was what looked like a sea of glass, clear as crystal." Revelation 4:1-6 NIV
God is beautiful in his holiness. No one... nothing... compares with him. His beauty is compelling. It draws out worship from us. The reason we don't worship is because we don't see the beauty of God.
"Day and night they never stop saying: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come." Revelation 4:8 NIV
From Revelation 4:11 - 5:14, we see that God is worthy because...
- He is the Creator.
- Jesus has brought people from every tribe and nation back into relationship with the Father by his own sacrifice on the cross.
- He has given authority back to the church to reign with him as priests.
- Jesus has been raised to the highest place and sits on the throne.
"Then I heard what sounded like a great multitude, like the roar of rushing waters and like loud peals of thunder, shouting: 'Hallelujah! For our Lord God Almighty reigns. Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready. Fine linen, bright and clean, was given her to wear.'” Revelation 19:6-8 NIV
