Water Usage

World wide agriculture accounts for 70% of all water consumption compared to 20% for industry and 10% for domestic use. Demand for fresh water has tripled over the last 50 years. Demand for water is increasing by 64 billion cubic meters a year. This year about 1 billion 5 hundred million liters of water was used.

Hydroelectricity

Hydroelectricity means to produce electricity by water power. Hydroelectricity is the term referring to electricity generated by hydropower. The production of electrical power through the use of the gravitational force of falling of flowing water. To build a hydroelectric power station some places build dams to get the drop of water needed to go through a tube, called a pin stock, to a turbine water wheel. This trbine Spins and magnets spin around copper wire which cause a flow of electrons. Thiselectricity can be stepped up in voltage through transformers that are sent across transmsion lines. The water after spinning the turbine enters the main river again.

Water Cycle

The water cycle is the perfect example of The Theory of Conservation of Matter and Energy, It is the cycle that water goes through on Earth. Starting from the ocean, it evaporates from the suns energy. Then it builds up in the clouds. Eventually it becomes too heavy for the clouds and it falls down as rain. Some of it falls back into the ocean, but some falls onto the land and gets absorbed into the plant and the ground. Also some rain goes into lakes and rivers that eventually go back into the ocean....were the process starts back over again.

Water Pollution

Every day 2 million tons of sewage and industrial and agricultural waste are discharged into the worlds water. The UN estimates that the amount of waste water produced annually is about 1.5 thousand km, six times more than the water that exists in all the rivers in the world. World wide 2.5 billion people live without improved sanitation. Over 70% of these people who lack sanitation or 1.8 billion live in Asia. Africa is slowest improving sanitation region in the world about 31% of the residents have access to improved sanitation in south Asia 63% of rural people- 778 million people practice open defecation.

Water Properties

H2O is what makes up water, 2 hydrogen atoms and 1 oxygen molecule. Water can bond easily because oxygen has a negative charge, but hydrogen has a positive charge. Therefore, one oxygen molecule is attracted to a different hydrogen atom. Ice floats because the molecules are more spread out, so that makes water denser than ice.

Water Basics

Water is a basic thing on Earth, and it really is simple. It is the simple combo of 2 hydrogen and 1 oxygen atom. it is what most of the Earth is made of. We would not be able to live without it, and it is even 60% of our body. Keeping our water clean is essential.
