Dolley Madison Braylin n.

Have you ever heard of Dolley Madison? Well she was known as Queen Dolley. She was the wife of James Madison who was the fourth president of the United States. She was the first lady from March 4,1809 - March 4, 1817.

She was born on May 20, 1768 in Guilford County, North Carolina, British America. Then she moved to Hanover County Virginia. After that she moved to Philadelphia. Her family were Quakers. She had 7 siblings. She was educated at home.

She was married to John Todd 1790 - 1793. But then due to an outbreak of yellow fever her husband and one son died. So then she married James Madison 1794 - 1836. So she became the first lady because she married the president. In 1814 the British approached and set the White House on fire but Dolley saved a famous portrait of George Washington. She was fancy and girly. She knew how to start a good party. She died on July 12, 1849 in Washington D.C.

Did you know Dolley was the first women to live in the White House? Then Dolley saved some valuable things when the British burned the White House. Dolley and James lived in their estate Montpelier in Orange County.
