Swinton Queen Primary School newsletter 26th February 2021

We have finally had the news we all wanted - school will be open again to ALL pupils from the 8th March. We cant wait to see everyone back in school!

We will update you with the full details of how this will look in school next week. The only area that will really be any different is the pick up and drop off times, as we are still advised to stagger these. We are keeping these the same as they have been since September.

Mrs Cunningham & Mr Goddard

World Book Day

With all children returning to school on the 8th March we have decided to make this day our ‘World Book Day’. All classes will spend the day working on activities linked to various books.

We would ask that children come to school dressed as any character from a book. Please don’t feel you have to go out and buy expensive costumes, there are many characters that wear clothes you will all have. Some of these include,

  • Charlie Bucket - Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
  • Harry - Harry and the Bucketful of Dinosaurs
  • Sophie - Sophie’s Adventures

The links below are useful sites for ideas.

School Meals

Ordering of school meals

School use Dolce for their catering services and all parents have access to pre-order their child's meal using the 'School Grid'.

If you don't have access to this, or have forgotten your log in details, please contact school and we can send you a reset link for this to your email address.

Moving forward, and to ensure that your child gets the selection they want, we are encouraging all families to pre-order meals in this way. Due to the restrictions we still face as a result of COVID, the kitchen are only able to place orders twice a week and are using the pre-orders as an indication as to what will then be requested on each day. There may be instances where the kitchen are unable to provide first choices made by children ordering when in school. The additional advantage of using this system is that you know what your child has had to eat each day.

Communication with families

Over the next week you will receive an email to enable you to download and register for the school's Parent Portal. This will mean you can see your child's profile, check your contact details, view attendance, receive key updates and message school for free. There are more features that we will roll out over the next few terms.

DOJO - Update.

With all pupils returning to school, from the 8th March, the message option will no longer be available via DOJO. This platform will still be used to share information about school and class events but if you need to contact school this will now need to be done through the Arbor Parent Portal or by phoning school. If you need to let us know your child won't be in school you can now select option 1 and leave a brief message.

PE kit and Uniform

Once again thank you to everyone for your feedback on school uniform. We have acted on your feedback and are updating the policy so that children have a choice of black or yellow (historically called gold) t shirts.

We have contact a number of uniform suppliers as well, for updated prices on different items, as the feedback from children is that they would like the option of a school hoodie instead of a school jumper. The option of a black hoodie will only be when purchased through school and with a logo on. More details will follow so please don't buy any of these yet.

School are going to provide a new P.E t-shirt for all children in school over the coming weeks. We have asked for a sample of the sizes available and when these arrive we will make sure everyone is measured and gets the correct size. We will also be setting up a school 'house' system, and will be looking for ideas as to what we can each of call these based on our locality. This will also mean that the P.E shirts will be in four different colours, one for each house.
