Indian Ocean earthquake & tsunami 2000s worst

The Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami happened in 2004 when a 9.2 magnitude earthquake occurred off the coast of Indonesia.

"A powerful earthquake off the coast of Sumatra, Indonesia, on this day in 2004 sets off a tsunami that wreaks death and devastation across the Indian Ocean coastline. The quake was the second strongest ever recorded and the estimated 230,000 dead made this disaster one of the 10 worst of all time."

This massive earthquake caused massive 100 foot waves that hit 14 countries. This was the deadliest national disaster in recorded history, killing over 250,000 people.

This was the third largest earthquake ever recorded and last for the longest time ever, about nine minutes. This caused the entire planet to move one centimeter, and caused after shocks all over the world, as far away as Alaska. The whole world helped after this disaster and donated about forty two billion US dollars.
