WNE Basketball Canada Tour August 2019

The Western New England University men's basketball team recently completed a six-day preseason trip in Canada with stops in Montreal and Quebec City. The Golden Bears had the opportunity to tour the historic cities and enjoy the Canadian culture while playing three games along the way.

The trip began on Saturday in Montreal, where the team visited the Parc Olympique, the site of the 1976 Summer Olympics.

The stop in Montreal also included a visit to the historic Notre Dame Basilica, which was built in 1829.

Western New England's first game of the trip was an 84-81 win over Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf on Monday. Nate Ramos led the offense with 16 points, while Mike McGuire and Alex Sikorski added 14 points each.

On Tuesday, the team traveled north to Quebec City and visited the Montmorency waterfalls on the way.

Western New England played its second game on Tuesday night against Laval University. Mike McGuire made 7-of-13 three-pointers on his way to a game-high 24 points, and Alex Sikorski posted a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds, but the Golden Bears fell 95-72 to a Laval squad that lost to Division I Quinnipiac by 3 points a few weeks earlier.

The team spent Wednesday in Quebec City, including a bike tour in Old Quebec.

On Thursday, the Golden Bears played their third and final game against Bishop's University in Lennoxville, Quebec during the return trip to campus. Western New England dropped a close 73-71 contest to the Gaiters, with Mike McGuire netting a team-best 15 points for the Golden Bears. Alex Sikorski and Tim Reilly chipped in with 14 points apiece.
