Mrs. Pfeiffer's fabulous news! December 9, 2016

This week we switched gears and worked on some non-fiction. The students read a non-fiction book Hurricanes. We also looked at a non-fiction poem by Grace Nichols about a hurricane that hit England. We also looked at how hurricanes are formed and the differences between hurricanes and tornadoes. We referenced back to the tornado that hit Brian in Hatchet.

This week we continued working in Unit 4. This week focused a lot on story problems. The students worked on reading through the word problem to determine what steps they needed to solve. We also did conversions of grams to kilograms. We will be finished with Unit 4 next week and testing before winter break.

Social Studies

This week the students focused on the Midwest. The students created study guides to study the Midwest which is split into the plain states and the great lake states. We also took the opportunity to learn the Great Lakes. The students will have a geography test next week.

This is the study guide they should have in their folder to study from. :)

Kindness Counts!

We are continuing to focus on kindness this month. We have had many fuzzy socks turned in already and I am excited to give these to Mattea's Joy to bring comfort to the families at Comer's Children's Hospital this holiday season. We will continue collecting socks until December 15th.
