August 2016

Destination 1: San Diego to see Sparkle and eat authentic Mexican food

Dropped our bags & hiked up Torrey Pines. #TorreyPinesStatePark

Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve is 2,000 acres of coastal state park located in the community of La Jolla, in San Diego, California, off North Torrey Pines Road.

Best way to end a hike is with burgers!
Beach Day

Looking for delicious ice cream? - hit up North Park, San Diego

The San Diego Zoo is a zoo in Balboa Park, San Diego, California, housing over 3,700 animals of more than 650 species and subspecies.

Besides all the sunrises and sunsets ... this was my favorite part of the trip

Do yall see those elephants ?!

I appreciate him so much! He put on a show for us while majority of the animals slept. I can't blame them though - it was sooooo hot!.

Hippos, Rhinos, Giraffes, Elephants, Lions, Apes...
Bye Bye World's Largest Zoo - i'll be back, promise!
Las Vegas - HERE WE COME!
  • Sadly, we only spent 1 night in Vegas but it was a blessing in disguise because it was about 9 trillion degrees and at one point I almost passed out.
Chillen in Nevada’s Mojave Desert

"Anything and everything you would like to do - can be done in Vegas"

FUN FACT: Behind every door you can most likely find a casino -- right outside the restaurant's doors Mandy won BIG CASH!!

WOW! just WOW!

Zion National Park is a southwest Utah nature preserve distinguished by Zion Canyon’s steep red cliffs. Zion Canyon Scenic Drive cuts through its main section, leading to forest trails along the Virgin River. The river flows to the Emerald Pools, which have waterfalls and a hanging garden. Also along the river, partly through deep chasms, is Zion Narrows wading hike

Utah is the prettiest state, hands down!
People come from all over to hike this mountain- who knew?
& just like that we are out to our next destination
NEXT STOP: Horseshoe Bend

Horseshoe Bend is a horseshoe-shaped incised meander of the Colorado River located near the town of Page, Arizona, in the United States

It was extremely hot. I was extremely tired. It was an extremely long walk but it was totally WORTH IT.

The overlook is 4,200 feet (1,300 m) above sea level.

The rock walls of Horseshoe Bend contain a variety of minerals, among which are hematite, platinum and garnet.

Adventures are the best way to learn

I'm not sure why we stopped on the side of the road but we did & I had to get a pic

We stayed 3 nights on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon during the rainy season.

The Grand Canyon in Arizona is a natural formation distinguished by layered bands of red rock, revealing millions of years of geological history in cross-section. Vast in scale, the canyon averages 10 miles across and a mile deep along its 277-mile length. Much of the area is a national park, with Colorado River white-water rapids and sweeping vistas.

Let's start from the beginning shall we?
Immediately upon arrival it started to downpour. The End.

Tip 1: Practice putting up your tent prior to the first time on the campsite. We arrived on the scene and did not expect it to be freezing OR pouring so we had no time to troubleshoot. In fact we panicked a lot and cried a little but thank Allah these kind gentlemen came to our rescue!. Forreal- they gave us each ponchos and put our tent up [we assisted them lol] Honestly, if those men did not come to help us we were gonna sleep in the car for the first night. Darkness was approaching quickly and I do not play when it comes to wildlife.

Tip 2: Dress for all 4 season. If you watched the videos you'll notice that Mandy is in a tanktop and I am wearing flip flops-- smh. We had just came from horseshoe bend which i mentioned earlier was 9 trillion degrees. We were not ready for this!!

Tip 3: Make friends with everyone you meet because newbie campers ALWAYS need help. -- My very friendly cousin became friend with the cashier that worked at the "camping store" down the trail and since every 5 seconds we were up in the store; he gave us lighter fluid for the low low price of 0.00$. She also thought it was a great idea to repay our kind neighbors for helping us build our tent and a few days later we needed them again for a pocket knife. "We all in this together!"

Hike 1

Bright Angel Trail: This was the second hike of the day - they tried to kill me...

FUN FACT: I was so angry because they told me this was gonna be a short hike but we ended up going to the wrong trail and this trail was LONG but the view was amazing. [I am not sure if that smile is genuine or not]

Sajeeda's elbow messed up my picture. Thanks!

I have a obsession with sunsets. The moment the sky was clear enough we ran 1/2 a mile to catch this view.

SUNRISE shots of the Grand Canyon--Waking up at 4am was worth it!

Split between 2 states
Shoutout to the roads we traveled and the car that made it all happen! APDTA
