Dear Toronto By Matt Black

Dear family, friends, teammates, coaches, and fans,

It is with great humility and a full heart that I announce my retirement today. After 10 seasons with the Toronto Argonauts, the time has come for me to begin the next chapter in my life.

To the fans, thank you for the memories. I am forever grateful for every single one of you that has cheered for or against the Double Blue, shook my hand, took a picture with me or asked for an autograph. These moments were all incredibly special to me and I am so grateful to have shared 10 seasons with you.

To the coaches that I have worked with over my career. You have been inspiring and impactful. From high school to college and into my professional career, you have all given me something that I can carry with me on my journey through life. For this I am so grateful.

Thank you to all the doctors, trainers, chiropractors, massage therapists, equipment and stadium staff who have crossed my path. Thank you for helping me focus on the game. You are all an integral part of a player’s success and I have appreciated you all.

To my teammates, as I look back on my career, I have realized that the game has given me some of my best friends in life. Thank you for all the memories and being a part of my journey. We are bonded for life and please know I am always just a phone call away.

To my family and friends. I will never be able to thank you enough. You believed in me before I believed in myself. Your continuous support and encouragement taught me to be resilient and relentless. I have to say a special thank you to my wife, daughter, mother, father, brother, sister, mother and father-in-law. Only we will know the road that was traveled. You have invested so much and made so many sacrifices in order for us to get to this point. From the bottom of my heart I want to thank you for everything you gave me.

In closing, I would like to announce I will be transitioning to a position in the front office as a Player Relation Advisor/Football Operations Assistant. I would like to thank MLSE, Argonauts President Bill Manning, GM Jim Popp and HC Corey Chamblin for giving me this opportunity. I look forward to continuing my work with the Toronto Argonauts and hope to see you all cheering on the Double Blue at BMO Field this summer.

Thank you all for the memories and ARRRRRRGOOOOOOOOS!
