How old does my child have to be to enroll in Kindergarten?
Michigan law states a child must be 5 on or before September 1st to be eligible for BK/K registration. However, Michigan law also states that parents of children who turn 5 between September 1st and December 1st may enroll their student by informing the district in writing that they plan to enroll their child for BK/K early.
*IMPORTANT* Children turning 5 AFTER December 1st are not eligible for BK/K enrollment.

BK/K ROUND-UP
When will my child be assessed to determine if BK or K is a better fit?
BK/K Round-Up will take place on June 15th, 2021 from 8:00am-1:00pm; 2:00pm-7:00pm
ASSESSMENTS BY APPOINTMENT ONLY
Please call the North Branch Elementary office @810-688-3042 to place your child on the Round-Up list for an appointment time. You will be contacted in May to set up an appointment time.
What will the Round-Up assessment entail?
- Recognition of letters
- Letter sounds
- Recognition of numbers
- Fine motor skills
- Shape recognition and construction
- Counting
Assessments will take place in the North Branch Elementary library.
Assessments will be administered by a highly trained North Branch Elementary staff member.
A BK or K PLACEMENT RECOMMENDATION WILL BE MADE BASED ON ASSESSMENT RESULTS & OTHER CONSIDERATIONS (age, social emotional, parent input). RECOMMENDATIONS WILL BE MAILED OUT BY THE BEGINNING OF JULY.
