Jacques Cartier

Jacques Cartier was born on December 31 1491 in Saint-Malo-Brittany-France.

Jacques Cartier discovered the mouth of the St. Lawrence river and explored much of its area. and gave Canada and Canadians there names .

Jacques Cartier was a French explorer that named Canada after Kanata the Huron-Iroquois word for settlement. Cartier was three expeditions along the St. Lawrence river would later enable France to lay claim to the lands that would become Canada.

Jacques Cartier died on September 1st 1557 at Saint-Malo-Brittney- France.
