From the Principal’s desk
Welcome to Week 2 Term 3
REPORTS
Reports went home last Wednesday and we had an excellent response to them. Thank you to those people who gave us feedback. Again, if you wish to discuss your child’s report please contact your child’s teacher to organise a ZOOM meeting.
MacqLit
Over the school holidays I did a 2 day course on MacqLit. It is similar to MiniLit but designed for those older students in Years 4-8 who have gaps in their literacy. It’s run as a small group of 4-6 students 4 times a week.
SHADE SAIL
The shade sails have finally been installed over the outdoor kitchen area. Mr Slapp, our school GA, said he couldn’t have done a better job himself (which is extremely high praise indeed!).
We would like to acknowledge the Australian Government's funding contribution through the Local Schools Community Fund which has provided us with a sun-safe outdoor learning area.
It looks awesome. We just need to get the other countertop and sink plumbed in.
AIRCONDITIONERS
We are finally getting reverse cycle air-conditioning in all ‘learning’ spaces. We applied for a program called ‘Cooler Classrooms’ a couple of years ago and it’s finally going ahead. Installers started on Wednesday and will take approximately a month to get it all done.
EDUCATION WEEK
Education week is next week …3rd August to 7th August. Unfortunately restrictions are in place and no one is allowed on school grounds, so there won’t be OPEN CLASSROOMS like previous years. We also won’t be able to have our Yr6 vs parents softball game.
We will be making a couple of videos and presenting them as a ‘virtual’ Open Day tour. We are currently looking at several ideas on how best to show case our school ‘virtually’!
WRITING FOR STAMINA
As you all know, our students are excellent at READING FOR STAMINA. Most students can sit and read meaningfully and consistently for more than 20 minutes. We have now turned our focus to writing and students are working on building their stamina in sustained writing. The whole school stops every day after first break to write silently and uninterrupted.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

School Photos
We are going to attempt to have our school photos taken on Tuesday 25th August, barring any further COVID restrictions. A copy of the order form will be sent home with students who haven't returned one yet and will be due back Thursday 20th August. Please contact the office on 6379 1404 if you need to check whether we already have your order form.
School Cross Country
We will be holding a version of our annual school cross country event on Wednesday 12th August. This will be held at school with just students and teachers. Can children please bring extra water and fruit on the day, as well as their puffer if they are asthmatic? It won’t be quite the same but it will still be a fun activity.

P and C Term 3 Raffle
We are excited to be sending out tickets to our term 3 Raffle. We would like to thank Moolarben Coal for sponsoring our raffle this year. This has given us the opportunity to support the community after a tough year of bush fires and covid.
Due to covid reasons we are sending the tickets in a zip lock bag. These will go out Friday the 31st July. Please can you send them back to the office by the 28th of August in the bag with money enclosed. Each book comes with a book of ten. If you would like another book please let the P and C know on Facebook and we will send one back in a zip lock bag to save on handling.
