InterACTION - January 2017 Our Family is Growing

By Dan Mayerle

On September 1st, 2016 InterAct Ministries of Canada officially welcomed into our family the ministries and staff of Midway Christian Leadership. This merger had been a long time in the making. Many discussions, meetings, telephone conversations, and of course, prayer, went into seeing this happen. We’re excited about the opportunities this will bring to further spread the gospel and make disciples among the least-reached peoples of western Canada.

As InterAct’s Canada field director I have enjoyed getting to know this team. So I would like to share with you a little bit about Midway’s ministry in northern Manitoba and to introduce these new members of our InterAct family.

A core ministry of Midway Christian Leadership is Midway Bible Camp (MBC), located in Moak Lake, outside of Thompson, MB. The camp’s roots date back to 1954 in Churchill, MB where eight young boys came that summer, learned some life skills and listened to stories about the God who created them and loves them. Today, the vision of MBC continues with the goal of making disciples in northern Manitoba. Discipleship happens as campers hear the gospel, come to Christ and are taught and mentored. Team members continue the work of discipleship year round through local youth and adult life coaching programs known as SALT and LIGHT. These disciples are developing into leaders, returning to serve at camp as well as help out in their own communities.

With this ministry comes a great team of people, passionate about what God has called them to do. In InterAct we frequently refer to our mission as a “family.” Meet our newest family members!

Cohle and Rebecca Bergen

Cohle and Rebecca have been living in Thompson, MB since 2011. They are involved in discipleship and mentoring among the youth in that area. Cohle serves as the director of Midway Bible Camp and provides leadership to some of the other related ministries happening in the area. Rebecca is very busy taking care of the family, working at home and caring for their two young boys, Levi and Judah. And they are excitedly awaiting their next child in April 2017!

Travis Harms

Travis hails from the “breadbasket” of southern Manitoba. It was there that Travis attended Steinbach Bible College and felt God’s leading to minister among First Nations people. After some time in the construction industry, Travis moved to Thompson, MB to work with Midway Christian Leadership. Travis provides leadership to Midway Builders, a construction ministry to young men.

Daniel Merasty

Daniel was born and grew up in Northern Manitoba. While attending Brandon University in 2012 God called him into ministry, and he joined Midway Christian Leadership. For the last four years he’s been involved with youth ministry, teaching the Bible in Thompson, Split Lake and Nelson House. He hopes to serve God the remainder of his life to raise up leaders and servants in Christ.

Kyla Plett

Kyla grew up in a small town in southern Manitoba. From a young age she felt the call to be a missionary and went to Steinbach Bible College after high school to prepare for that calling. She currently lives and works out of Thompson, MB and is mainly involved with leading and discipling youth. She loves building relationships with people and seeing them grow into a deeper relationship with God.

Morgan and Krista Serger

Morgan and Krista grew up together in the same church and served together in music and children’s ministries. They were married in 2005. After Morgan completed his bachelor of education in 2007, they moved to Thompson, MB. At first Morgan taught grade three in the public school and they volunteered at Midway Bible Camp. Two years later they joined Midway Christian Leadership (formerly known as Continental Mission) as full-time missionaries. Morgan first worked as camp director and then as general director of the mission until the present. They are currently exploring the possibility of moving to York Landing, MB, a Cree community with their three boys Obadiah, Enoch and Amos.

As you can see, God has blessed us with these new members of our family and the gifts and talents they bring. From the beginning, it was our desire to be used by God for his glory and according to his will. As we discussed the merger and prayed for God’s direction, we saw more and more how Midway and InterAct Ministries of Canada shared a common vision of making reproducing disciples. We believe that God has clearly led through the process and we are excited about what he will do through this merger.

And we want to thank you, our partners in prayer and financial support. When you pray for us and give to our missionaries and ministries, you enable us to continue to grow and pursue more opportunities and avenues for sharing the gospel and making disciples. Please continue to keep us in your prayers as we move forward into this new era of ministry. And if the Lord lays it on your heart to support one of these missionaries or the ministries of Midway Bible Camp directly, please connect with us. We would love to hear from you! †

With this ministry comes a great team of people, passionate about what God has called them to do.
