8th Graders are Evaluating/Analyzing Multiple Informational Texts

Mrs. Manz and her 8th grade Literacy students are involved in a Western Iowa Conference (WIC) Professional Learning Community (PLC) common unit; Evaluating/Analyzing multiple informational texts on the same topic by different authors and multimedia.

Why would two authors write on the same topic and emphasize different evidence or advance different interpretations of facts?
  • An author writes from the perspective of their life experiences. While gathering information, a personal perspective can change or influence the interpretation of facts and materials.

The 8th graders are analyzing an article about the dangers of raw cookie dough to that of a video on the same topic to see what information is conflicting between the two.
