Amity Middle School June 2020

Message from Mr. Reg McShane, Interim Principal

Let's finish strong

Wow here we are getting close to the finish line of the 2019-2020 school year. I couldn't have imagined in my wildest dreams that anything would have impacted schools, our communities, the State, and our country like Covid-19.

We have all been through a tremendous learning curve, experienced frustration, and tremendous emotional stress. Navigating through doing things so differently has been an experience I'll never forget. My heart goes out to everyone that has experienced life altering challenges. The challenges range from lost opportunities, financial difficulties, health issues, and much much more. What has been lost by our children cannot be overstated.

Here we are less than two weeks away from the end of the school year and I need to ask you to make one final push to finish strong. Amity Middle School will not be assigning any additional work. We do however, need you to push your children to complete assignments they have not completed. Partial work is better than no work. If they have questions, help them to ask for help.

We care about each and every one of our students. We are so proud of our students that have scratched and clawed their way through distance-learning and have been successful. I know many of our students will find a way to turn in enough required work prior to the June 10th deadline, to bring their grade to passing and finish the race. However, students that are below 60% will receive an incomplete grade.

Students receiving an incomplete grade in one or more of their classes will be receiving a summer packet. These packets will be either mailed or hand-delivered shortly after the students last day of school June the 11th. The work packets must be completed and returned (via drop box at the school) prior to the start of the 2020-21 school year in order to remove the incomplete grade. Students that do not return the work packets in the proper time and with satisfactory work will be added to the list of students required to attend Friday School in order to complete the work.

I am confident if we work together and focus on the next couple of weeks we can get our children across the finish line. Thanks for all you do and please don't hesitate to give us a call if we can help.

Reg McShane, Interim Principal
