Discovering Yourself Ones goal in life is to find their personal legend

Thesis: The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho demonstrates how one's goal in life is to find their Personal legend through persistence, luck, and the ability to dig into ones mind and heart. We see this through the Bible, inspirational words from a young rapper and a baseball legend.

Alchemist: "One dies of thirst just when the palm trees have appeared on the horizon." (Coelho, 137).

Commentary- This shows the purpose of persevering and never giving up. The quote shows that most give up when their that close to achieving their goals.

This story shows persistence is a key element in everyday life. "Jonah did not wish to preach to the people of Nineveh; for they were the enemies of his land, the land of Israel. He wished Nineveh to die in its sins, and not to turn to God and live. So Jonah tried to go away from the city where God had sent him. He went down to Joppa and took a ship for Tarshish."(Jonah 1, 1-3) "Jonah went to the city of Nineveh; and as he entered into it, he called out to the people: "Within forty days shall Nineveh be destroyed." And he walked through the city all day crying out only this: "Within forty days shall Nineveh be destroyed." And the people of Nineveh believed the word of the Lord as spoken by Jonah. They turned away from their sins" (Jonah 1, 11-14)

Commentary- Most people only see one lesson in this that when God gives you a message you listen, but I see a man Jonah that didn't want to go to Nineveh but through perseverance and hardship he found a way to move on.

"When you play cards the first time, you are almost sure to win. Beginner's Luck...Every search begins with beginner's luck. And every search ends with the victor's being severely tested." (Coelho 31, 136).

The wind ask the boy "Who taught you to speak the language of the dessert and the wind?" "My heart ," the boy answered (Coelho 151)

Commentary- The quote above shows if you can dig into your heart you can do anything even turn into wind.
