Public Space Academy Bologna, ITALY

PROJECT OVERVIEW: The Public Space Academy (PSA) is a transformative learning experience aimed at establishing a new approach to urban complexity built around public space. It is intended to spread awareness on the importance of public space culture, towards a more comprehensive understanding of cities and societies. PSA is an innovative educational program based on a strong paradigm: public space is not just a place for consumerism and functionalities, it is the ultimate frontier where societies negotiate their democracy, so it is both a physical space for community interaction and a theoretical concept addressing social justice, equity and civil rights. PSA is aimed at inspiring and empowering a new generation of urban thinkers and innovators who are willing to become agents of change in their own cities and communities, by providing free online contents and a collaborative learning environment for the exchange of theoretical contents and the design of practical solutions. The PSA is aimed at fostering intercultural dialogues, programs and initiatives led by youth and based on a volunteer commitment, while defining a long-lasting impact on knowledge related to public space. The PSA will be related to major challenges, including global commitments related to the New Urban Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals. COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT: The Public Space Academy will be developed through several activities (talks, public dialogues, meetings and exhibitions) together with webinars on a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) taught by academic scholars, professionals, artists and activists, from different backgrounds and expertise. A final face-to-face workshop is planned at our headquarters in Bologna. The PSA's dissemination main outcome will be an open access book to be published at the end of the project, with a full description of the learning process and all developed activities, with details of all learning achievements. In addition, at the end of the project, the PSA will result in a web portal rich of contents and reading materials, that will remain available for future consultation (removing authentication through username and password from the MOOC), in order to reach a wider audience.

PARTNERS: This is a future project. Our partners will be universities, NGOs and professionals.
