Carrie Happel Illinois State University

Tell us about yourself!

My name is Carrie Happel and I am a recent graduate of Illinois State University. I graduated with a degree in Integrated Marketing Communications and have been one of Illinois State's Adobe Ambassadors since the program came to the campus in the Spring of 2018. When Adobe reached out to one of my friends in my RSO about creating this program on Illinois State's campus, he asked me if I would like to join the team! I love being creative and creating something from just an idea in my head and seeing the finished project. I would love to be a CMO one day for a major corporation. I will be starting in August with J.C. Anderson Inc. as a Marketing Coordinator and am very excited to enter into the workforce and start learning as much as possible. I love taking on side projects and have been able to create a lot of logos and shirt designs for friends and for some companies, but my main project is my small business that I started with my cousin, Devon. We design t-shirts and sell them through our own website. Zip-A-Dee Tees started in the Spring of 2017 and has grown ever since!

Based on your experiences, do you have any professional advice or tips for other ambassadors looking to further their professional or creative careers?

Teaching myself how to use tools like Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop outside the classroom is what has helped me land my job after graduation as well as create a business with my cousin. My advice would be to branch out outside of the classroom, join organizations, get leadership positions, and learn new skills! Don't be afraid to try something new and put yourself out there because a lot of the opportunities I was able to take advantage of wouldn't have come about if I didn't ask.

What are some tools or apps you can't live without when it comes to productivity or creativity that some people may not know about?

I use my iPad for designs from time to time and love the app Procreate! It's great to use with an Apple Pencil and draw out the vision inside your head!

Where can we find you and your work on social media?
