This year, the Nothing But Nets community is teaming up with partners on the ground in Borno State, Nigeria to provide critical malaria prevention resources to people most in need.

Nigeria is home to the highest number of global malaria cases and deaths. In 2019, the country reported over 83.4 million cases.

Malaria is transmitted throughout the country year-round, with children under five, pregnant women, and internally displaced persons most likely to be affected.

Outbreaks like COVID-19 threaten the world's most vulnerable communities, including displaced communities and the first line of defense against malaria - healthcare workers.

This World Malaria Day, your gift will help expand essential, lifesaving malaria prevention interventions for the most vulnerable displaced and conflict affected people in Borno State, Nigeria.

Together we can raise $100,000 and unlock another $100,000 in matching funds, doubling your impact for communities in need.

Your contribution will support indoor residual spraying (IRS) campaigns to prevent the presence of malaria-carrying mosquitoes in homes and protect over 385,000 people. It will also help our partners on the ground deliver disinfection kits to 100 health facilities.

Join us #OntheFrontlines and protect communities at risk today.

Nearly one in four malaria cases worldwide occur in Nigeria.

Nigeria loses close to 100,000 people and 5% of its total Gross Domestic Product each year due to malaria.

97% are Nigerians are at-risk and it’s estimated 60% of all outpatient visits are due to malaria.

Situated in the northeastern corner of Nigeria is Borno State, home to one of the world’s most complex and longest-running humanitarian emergencies.

Over two million Borno residents have been displaced and over 7 million people need urgent humanitarian aid.

Displaced people are particularly vulnerable to malaria, as travel and lack of accessible health care can compromise immunity.

Of these displaced people, 80% are women and children with one in four under the age of five.

Nigeria contains vast rural, hard-to-access regions that make routine malaria service difficult.

The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted delivery of malaria services and distributions nationwide.

"Malaria makes our body weak. The fever takes over your whole body. Even talking becomes painful. I remember waking up in the morning, everything else seems confusing. My husband was away from the house, he was at work. My neighbors call him back and he found me laying on the floor. I was told that it was malaria, and I was given treatment. I recovered by a miracle."

Malaria is entirely preventable and treatable, yet many displaced communities, pregnant women, and children throughout sub-Saharan Africa - especially those in conflict areas - still die of this disease due to lack of access to lifesaving prevention and treatment tools.

Critical malaria prevention tools can protect people from malaria.

Your contribution will support indoor residual spraying (IRS) campaigns to prevent the presence of malaria-carrying mosquitoes in homes. Additionally, it will help our partners on the ground deliver disinfection kits to 100 health facilities. These kits will help ensure uninterrupted delivery of critical life-saving health services.

Help us raise $100,000 by May 1st in honor of World Malaria Day. Your gift will be DOUBLED, allowing more people in Borno State, Nigeria to receive lifesaving protection from malaria.

Thanks to the Benito and Frances C. Gaguine Foundation, all gifts received up to $100,000 will have 2X the impact April 14 through May 1 - just in time to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Nothing But Nets campaign.

"I think eliminating malaria would be one of the best things that could happen at the maternity ward. If malaria was not there, these women would be a lot stronger, they would be able to do their day-to-day activities. The children would be stronger and go to school.”
