IF YOUR CHILD TESTS POSITIVE FOR COVID-19, THEY MUST ISOLATE AT HOME FOR A MINIMUM OF 10 DAYS FROM SYMPTOM ONSET OR DATE OF TEST.

IF YOUR CHILD IS A CLOSE CONTACT OF AN INDIVIDUAL WHO IS POSITIVE FOR COVID-19, THEY MUST QUARANTINE AT HOME FOR 14 DAYS FROM THE DATE OF THE LAST CONTACT.

DECISION CHART FOR COVID-19 BASED ON SYMPTOMS AND CONTACT

The following scenarios are based on the recommendations from the Connecticut State Department of Education in conjunction with the Connecticut Department of Public Health.

What should I do if....

COVID-19 SYMPTOMS

  • New onset cough or shortness of breath
  • A sudden loss of taste or smell
  • FEVER - body temperature of 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit (38 degrees Celsius) or higher
  • Congestion, Runny Nose, Headache or Sore Throat
  • Gastrointestinal Symptoms: Nausea, Vomiting or Diarrhea
  • Fatigue or muscle pain

I have COVID-19 symptoms AND I have been in close contact to an individual diagnosed with COVID-19 symptoms, and I am...

AT HOME

  • STAY HOME
  • NOTIFY SCHOOL IMMEDIATELY (do not wait until next school day)
  • CALL PROVIDER
  • GET A COVID-19 TEST

AT SCHOOL

  • REMAIN MASKED
  • MAINTAIN STRICT PHYSICAL DISTANCING
  • ISOLATE
  • SEEK ASSITANCE IN HEALTH OFFICE and NURSE ASSESSMENT
  • SEND HOME WITH INSTRUCTIONS TO CONSULT HEALTHCARE PROVIDER AND OBTAIN COVID-19 TEST

MY TEST WAS POSITIVE, I NEED TO:

  • Stay home and isolate for at least 10 days since symptom onset. Must also be fever free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication
  • Notify school immediately
  • Notify personal contacts to quarantine for 14 days
  • Assist in public health and school in contact tracing efforts

MY TEST WAS NEGATIVE OR I DID NOT GET TESTED:

  • Stay home and isolate for at least 10 days since symptom onset. Must also be fever free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication

  • Stay home for 14 days from the last exposure to person diagnosed with COVID-19
  • Continue to watch for symptoms

I do not have symptoms, but I was tested and my test was positive. I should...

CONTACT TRACING

SCHOOL NURSES WILL BE NOTIFYING THE DARIEN HEALTH DEPARTMENT OF CONFIRMED CASES OF COVID-19 IN THE SCHOOL SETTING

SCHOOL NURSES WILL ASSIST THE DARIEN HEALTH DEPARTMENT WITH CONTACT TRACING WITHIN THE SCHOOL SETTING. THE DARIEN HEALTH DEPARTMENT WILL CONTINUE TO COORDINATE CONTACT TRACING OUTSIDE OF THE SCHOOL SETTING.

IN CONSULTATION WITH THE DARIEN HEALTH DEPARTMENT, SCHOOL NURSES WILL NOTIFY THE PARENTS OF CLOSE CONTACTS IN SCHOOL OF THEIR CHILD'S EXPOSURE TO A CASE OF COVID-19, PROVIDE FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS REGARDING EXCLUSION, SEEKING A MEDICAL EVALUATION AND TESTING

IN CONSULTATION WITH THE DARIEN HEALTH DEPARTMENT AND THE DISTRICT MEDICAL ADVISOR, THE SCHOOL AND DISTRICT RESPONSE TEAMS WILL NOTIFY THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY OF CONFIRMED CASES OF COVID-19 IN THE SCHOOL SETTING

ABSENTEE DATA WILL BE MONITORED BY THE SCHOOL NURSING TEAM, COMPILED DAILY AND SHARED WITH THE DARIEN HEALTH DEPARTMENT AND THE DISTRICT MEDICAL ADVISOR
