Knightly Knews 9/22/17 Friday, September 22, 2017

Fall is now here (but it sure still feels like summer)! Thank you to all of our parents who attended Curriculum Night last night. It was great to see so many of you as we have a fantastic start to the school year. A big thank you goes to our PTO bake sale organizer (Iffat Shaheen), our many bakers, and everyone who supported the bake sale—it was a tremendous success!

Parents—please be sure to drop off your child(ren) to school in the middle parking lot lane only. Also, for the safety our students/your child(ren), please drive carefully and alertly!

Pictures and information from this week are below, as well as lots of opportunities for students and parents, plus a schedule of next week's activities at the bottom of the page. Have a great weekend.

Internet/Schoology Issue

There has been an issue with students accessing the Internet (including Schoology) via the school-issued iPad from home. This issue has been identified and a fix will be implemented over the weekend. We are hopeful that students should be able to access the Internet from home issue-free early next week.

THS Shell-Eco Marathon Club Science Competition

The Troy High School Shell Eco-Marathon club is hosting a science competition called the Metro Detroit Junior Innovation Competition for middle school students in the metro Detroit area. Students are challenged to compose a new innovative idea and explain their idea through a written paper or video. The competition is free and students with the best projects can win up to $500. Submissions are due by September 30th. Please visit mdjic.com for more details.

Troy Public Library E-Cards

SEPTEMBER IS LIBRARY CARD SIGN-UP MONTH! We are encouraging ALL Troy School District parents/guardians to sign students up for a FREE electronic library card through a partnership with Troy Public Library.

The e-card gives students access to free homework help, research assistance, and free e-books and audio books using the OverDrive app. Any student previously signed up and all NEW sign-ups during the month of September will be entered into a weekly drawing for a Barnes and Noble giftcard. We will draw names and notify winners for 4 weeks, starting September 22nd.

Want help signing up? See this flier from Mrs. Chatel. Please email her at cchatel@troy.k12.mi.us with questions.

Homework Help

Yearbook Picture Help

Parents, Mr. Koneval, Smith's Yearbook Advisor, is asking for your help. If you have a son/daughter that is participating in any kind of Smith club, sport, or any other Smith related activity, please snap a few photos and send them to Mr. Koneval at pkoneval@troy.k12.mi.us so they can potentially be used in the yearbook. It would be very helpful and much appreciated. If it is easier, please join the yearbook course using the following Schoology code 9NMC8-2KVRV. Once you are in the course, you will be able to log in and add pictures directly to the Schoology page using the “add media” option. Please let Mr. Koneval know if you have any questions.

PTO - Box Tops

Smith Middle School is collecting Box Tops again this school year! Please begin collecting them and turn them in at the Smith front office. We will have a contest from now until Monday, October 23 – for every 10 Box Tops that you bring in, you will be entered into a raffle for a $10 Dairy Queen gift card. Please write your name and grade on the envelope with your Box Tops. (If you write your name on a plastic baggie it may smudge, and we want you to get credit). Please contact Cari Coffer, Box Top Representative for Smith at colorcc.222@gmail.com. Thank you for your support!
