Canby, Minnesota The Gateway to the Prairie

The Gateway to the Prairie, Canby is the westernmost city in Yellow Medicine County. It sits in the center of a broad-flat valley from which can be seen the Coteaux des Prairies in South Dakota. Canby is located at the junction of U.S. Highway 75 (The King of Trails) and State Highway 68. Canby invites you to visit their community and take advantage of all they have to offer. If you are looking for quality of life, this is the place.

Downtown Life

Main Street Canby is full of small businesses like florists, boutiques, drug stores, and restaurants. It's the perfect destination for spending a weekend shopping, or just to pick up the things you need!

Lund-Hoel House

This historic house, established in 1891 by John Lund of Lund's Land Agency became the talk of the town. The main part of the house was completed in 49 days. In 1900, additional renovations included a surrounding "hardhead" (fieldstone) fence, additional living space, servants quarters, balconies, a turret, and porches. Although considered extravagant at the time, foolish by many, the house boasted a gas plant to light the house at night with original gas fixtures on display. The rooms were designed without continuity or harmony with many styles of millwork. All bedrooms, except the servants quarters, had their own balcony. The "door above the door" in the upstairs hallway is always intriguing.
