5 ways to cope with stress By: Julia Cox

Stress can do a great deal of harm to the body. However here are some effective ways of coping with stress.

1. Yoga: This form of stress relief has been proven to relax muscle tension and bring a individual to a state of peace during stressful situations. Yoga is also great because you can do it at home or enroll into classes that are taught by an instructor.

2. Write it out: If you are ever feeling overwhelmed with stress, one way to relieve it is by writing your feelings out. The best way to get your feelings out efficiently is to write out everything that you are thinking that very moment.

3. Exercise: Taking a run or a walk outside is another way to relieve your muscle tension and take a break from a stressful activity. Exercise takes your mind off of stress and affects your body in more than one positive way, such as re-energizing the body, improving a person's mood and burning off calories.

4. Aromatherapy: Certain scents that are found in household items such as candles and bath salts are also a good source for stress relief. The scents are able to relieve stress due to the soothing smell that they have. Some of these scents include lavender, vanilla and eucalyptus.

5. Enjoy the "here and now": While in a stressful situation, take a break and do something that you enjoy doing. Some people may take a break and go practice a sport, however others may go out and simply enjoy nature.
