ABOUT
RISE UP is a joint call to action developed by civil society and philanthropic organisations, urging governments and corporations to agree to bold and fair actions to set the ocean on a course to recovery.
The Blue Call to Action was formally launched in January 2020 ahead of the delayed 2020 UN Ocean Conference, now scheduled to take place in 2022.
We need to RISE UP together to:
- Restore ocean life
- Invest immediately in a net-zero carbon emissions future
- Speed the transition to a circular and sustainable economy
- Empower and support coastal people
- Unite for stronger global ocean governance
- Protect at least 30% of the ocean by 2030
The IPCC Climate Report, released on Monday 9 August 2021, serves as a stark reminder that we must #RiseUp4TheOcean. The choices we make now are critical for the health of our ocean and our own future.
We need to defend the ocean’s capacity to produce oxygen, sequester carbon and provide food and livelihoods for billions of people. We need to RISE UP!
